Let Me Be Frank… 6-8-18

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”(Isaiah 40:28-31)
I remember walking in the woods with my brother.  I was a little nervous about bears in the area and asked him what to do in case we spotted one.  “Run,” he said.  “You can’t outrun a bear,” I said.  “With a slight littlesmile he responded, “I don’t have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you.”
We run pretty fast if we’re running away from something.  Adrenaline takes over, your emotions are working overtime, and we just go.  It’s like that in life…  We run fast away from our past, the things that scare us, and mountains that seem too massive to move.
Running toward something?  There may be some apprehension.  There may be some exhaustion.  There may be some anxiousness involved with the outcome.  And the question comes.  “Why don’t I just stop running?”
I hit a wall two days ago.  Not literally (that would hurt) but I was having trouble continuing.  It wasn’t a long run, just a little under three miles, but I had to stop and catch my breath two or three times (should have grabbed the inhaler on the way out).
A voice said, “Keep going.”
And then it said, “You’re not running away from anything today, you’re running toward something.”
Isaiah 40:31 will always be my life verse, I think.  But on that day I was floored by the fact that, as I ran towards God, He gave me strength.  I couldn’t keep going, but I put one foot in front of the other and finished the run.
Where are you today? Are you running toward Him?  Do you feel like you’re not going to make it?  Just take that step…  and then take another one.  Let Him be your strength when you don’t have anymore.
We are Central… and we’re in this TOGETHER!
