Soomething Don’d on Me! 5-23-18

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” Psalm 19:14

If you’ve been in Church anywhere for any amount of time, you’ve probably heard that verse used. It’s a great encouragement to make my mind focused on things above not things of this earth!

But I went back and spent some time IN Psalm 19…and it’s a VERY powerful Word! The bulk of the Psalm is David DECLARING the greatness of God! He addresses the perfection of the things that God has ordained, and just keeps talking about the Glory of God! I LOVE THAT! I NEED more of that in my prayer life-just focusing on God’s Greatness!

Then down in the middle of the Psalm, David begins to pray for forgiveness! After praising God for His Wisdom and that His Commands are right…it brings King David to his knees! “How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults.”(Psalm 19:12) When we spend more time thinking of HIM than of me…it SHOULD drive me to my knees!

Then later, I found this quote from Amy Carmichael:

Holy Spirit, Think through me till your ideas are my ideas!

And that hit me like a freight train! I run off planning my life and running my life…maybe God is whispering to me, “Hey Don…you know that you’re not REALLY controlling all this now, don’t you??”

What I got from that passage and that quote is a simple thought, but a rather profound one: Put my thoughts on HIS WORDS and not mine. Too often, though, my words are on MY thoughts and MY actions and what I plan to get done! The prayer from David in Psalm 19 is “LET my words be acceptable!” Maybe the best way to do that…is to concentrate on HIS Words!

We know from another verse to “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desire of your heart!” (Psalm 37:4) That’s not a Christmas list or a no-limit MasterCard! The more we DELIGHT ourselves in Him…the more our HEARTS will align with HIS HEART! The more my THOUGHTS are His…the more of His heart will come through my thoughts!

Can I encourage you this week: Hear David’s words…and follow his example! Marvel at the glory of God’s creation. Praise Him for His Wisdom. Count on His forgiveness. And then ask the God of Creation to watch your words and your thoughts.

May we ALL have thoughts and words that Glorify Him!

Shalom Alachiem, Don
