Let Me Be Frank… 1-23-19

“It’s always in the last place you’d look.”  I remember people telling me this as I ransacked the house searching for my keys, wallet, or anything else I might have misplaced.  And I remember thinking, “Of course it’s in the last place I’d look…  I’d stop looking once I found it!”
The other day I lost my keys (again) and searched the entire house for them.  I looked everywhere.  I searched every room, every nookand cranny, trying desperately to locate them.  It was out of necessity, really.  I couldn’t leave the house in my vehicle without them.
Necessity.  I continued to seek until I found my keys because I had no other choice.  In Matthew 7, Jesus is saying to pray effectively we must keep on asking and we must keep on seeking.  Much like my search for my keys we must be relentless in our pursuit.  Not because God doesn’t hear us, but because we need to be reminded of our need for a Savior.
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”
Matthew 7:7-8

Jesus says “Everyone who asks, receives.  Everyone who seeks, finds.”  And you may be saying, “I’ve asked over and over again and it doesn’t seem like God is even listening.”  Why should I keep asking if He won’t answer?”
Persistence becomes our default as we come, again and again, to God and offer our requests to Him.  His timing is perfect and He knows what we need.  When we seek Him, we become more like Him.  When we spend time with Him we begin to understand and trust Him more and more.  Prayer changes us.
I had searched for my keys to no avail.  I had all but given up when I looked at my cross key holder hanging on the wall.  I had missed it before, but I saw my keys behind another key ring.  It was easy to miss, but it was staring me in the face.
My keys were there the whole time.  I just wasn’t looking in the right place.  And I think we do that with God.  He’s there the whole time but we search every area of our life, every nook and cranny, trying desperately to locate Him.  And He’s saying, “I’m right here.  I’m ready to talk.  I want to know you and be known by you!”
Don’t stop asking until you get an answer.  And don’t stop searching until you find Him.
