Let Me Be Frank… 1-8-20

“So, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31

If you knew my dad, you would know where most of my silliness comes from.  He was always trying to set people at ease by making a joke or acting goofy.
If he sneezed and we were slow to say, “God bless you,” he would say, “Lord, bless me… nobody else will.”  Or if something went really well, he would exclaim, “Dynomite!”  The “o” is added for the proper inflection :0)
He was serious when he needed to be, though.  Talk to him about needing prayer and he would stop everything to pray with you.  He would also say, “dear heart,” when he wanted to draw others in.  He had a beautiful tenor voice and a soft spirit.
He had another saying as well.  Any time my dad received a compliment he would say, “Gloria a Dios!”  Glory to God.  He didn’t want the limelight, he just wanted to point other people to Jesus.
It’s funny how we take things we remember and incorporate them into our lives without even knowing it.  I’ve been writing weekly blog posts for Central since at least 2015.  And every single one of them has the same sign off.  “Soli Deo Gloria.”
Soli – alone…  Deo – God…  Gloria – glory
To God be the glory alone.  Gloria a Dios.
And, in an instant, I’m taken back to my childhood watching my father speak with passion and fervor.  I’m smelling green chile stew and watching Tom and Jerry cartoons.  And I’m reminded that you don’t have to pastor a megachurch to make a difference.  You don’t even have to be a pastor.

We are Central… and we’re in this TOGETHER!
