Let Me Be Frank… 2-20-19

Never let the fire in your heart go out.  Keep it alive. Serve the Lord.  When you hope, be joyful.  When you suffer, be patient.  When you pray, be faithful.
omans 12:11-12 (NIRV)

I love a good fire.  A fire pit in the backyard just seems to invite others to sit around and talk, sing, and reminisce.  I typically ask my kids to start the fire when it’s outside and they reach for the lighter fluid every time (it happens).  They get it started quickly so I guess in this case the end justifies the means.  Or maybe I’m just happy that I didn’t start the fire.  (I won’t insert a song reference here, but I feel like you caught my drift.)

I am so thankful for the firewood in my backyard. Firewood is fuel and it keeps my fire going. The only problem is, there is a finite supply. It’s what is called a non-renewable energy resource. When I run out of fuel, I run out offire.

We tend to think that a little bit of Jesus each week will keep us going. And when our fires are running low we do our best to stoke the flames.  We stay busy and productive. We do good things for others. We try to be the best version of ourselves that we can possibly be. But all of this fuel, I’m afraid, is finite.  It’s not that this fuel won’t keep our fire going, it’s just that it can’t sustain it.  Just like the lighter fluid, the fuel burns off eventually and we’re left in the cold.

What fuel are you putting on your fire?

Renewable energy is all the rage now, but it’s always been what God is after.  He wants our hearts connected to Him 100% of the time.  But a little bit of Jesus is simply not enough.  We must be connected to Him every day.  We stay in the Word.  We let Him guide us as we encourage and serve others.  We listen for His Voice above all the chaos.  When we do this, we begin to operate out of the overflow!

Our hearts won’t overflow until they are filled.

Lord, fill our hearts today.  Remind us that being good isn’t good enough.  Nothing can replace your love, peace, and strength in our hearts.  Fuel us to better serve you.

We are Central… and we’re in this TOGETHER!
