Something Don’d On Me! 1-15-20

“I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,  I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”       Philippians 3:12-14 (NLT)

I heard a story last week that really intrigued me. This Airplane Charter Service in Dallas was looking to hire a couple of extra pilots to run their little Twin-Engine Propeller planes and heard of a recently retired pilot from United that might be interested. This guy had flown LARGE jets for over 30 years, had over 15,000 hours in the Cockpit. He was VERY well respected and had impeccable reviews. When they reached out to him, his response was odd. “Well, yes, I’d be interested…but you’re gonna have to give me a little while to brush up on my flying…it’s been a while!”

The owner of the Charter Service was puzzled. “Been a while? I thought you’ve been a pilot for 30 years?!?”

“Oh sure…but with the planes I fly, I drive it to the runway and push a button. It takes off, flies to the destination, and lands…and I drive it back up to the gate. Those big planes are so sophisticated that the Autopilot does most of the work!”

May I ask you a question: ARE YOU ON AUTOPILOT? Maybe in your marriage…have you just been coasting? What about in your FAITH…just cruising to church and going through the motions? How about in your LEARNING…have you put extra time and energy into learning NEW things about how God is working in your life? In that verse above, Paul says: I PRESS ON… I don’t stop! I keep trying! I keep looking for new things to learn! I keep seeking new insights into the character of God!

AUTOPILOT is super helpful in a plane…but it’s a dangerous habit to get into in relationships! Because of that, we are sponsoring the XO MARRIAGE CONFERENCE-Leaping into Your Marriage! This will be a simulcast that will be held right here at Central Christian Church on February 28 & 29 !! (Get it? Leap Year? Leap Day? Leap into your Marriage??) This conference will be at NO COST to our attendees…AND we will provide FREE Childcare for the Friday night and Saturday morning sessions! But you MUST SIGN UP so we will know what/who/when and how many! Franklin is building an online sign up through our website…look for details there or elsewhere in this email newsletter!

No, a Friday night and Saturday morning won’t fix every problem. But it might get you off of AUTOPILOT! Start making plans NOW…and let’s start this new decade with a RENEWED focus on our marriages and our relationships!

Almighty God…work in our hearts, work in our relationships…and empower us to make the CHANGES we need to make to look more like your son, Jesus! Through Him we praise You…Amen!

May His Peace Reign in Your Heart and in Your Home!
