Something Don’d on Me! 2-19-20

I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace.” (Philippians 1:6-7 ESV)

While visiting a business out of town recently, I came into the lobby as they were hanging plastic, ripping up carpet and hauling off debris. The greeters made sure to point out this sign to me, and smiled as they said, “Be Patient…we’re making it better!” I loved the statement that they said…but I’ve gotta be honest-that sign made me giggle a little.

“Forgive me…for IMPROVING myself???” Why do they need to apologize…for getting BETTER?

As I walked out to the parking lot, I couldn’t help but think of friends that are in the process of IMPROVING themselves! I’ve got friends that are going back to school, to continue their education! I’ve got other friends that make weekly AA Meetings because they are trying to break free of addiction. I’ve met Moms that are overwhelmed at being a Mom and don’t feel like they EVER measure up…but yet they KEEP getting up and KEEP going! I’ve got friends that are working out, going to the gym, working the program…and it is WORKING!!

If you fit in that category, can I just say this: GREAT JOB!! KEEP AT IT!! DON’T GIVE UP!! So you’re NOT at your goal weight…big deal. You’re getting better! So you DIDN’T get the house perfectly clean…that’s alright! Stay at it!! Do the homework…go to the meetings…and keep at it!

I believe God is GLORIFIED, when we are improving ourselves for HIM! Do it to HIS Glory! Run that mile or that half-marathon and shine HIS light! Get that degree…get sober…and show people what HE has done in your life!

Or maybe…like a lot of us…we’ve blown it. You failed that test. You fell off the wagon. You made a wrong turn. Can I just say this: YOU’RE NOT FINISHED…HE CAN STILL USE YOU! Don’t let a momentary failure be your legacy. We’ve said it a lot lately…Put down your past, and pick up your PURPOSE!

Too often, we see ourselves stuck in the “Construction Zone”…or worse, we feel like it can’t be fixed. We’re a lost cause. Is that how God measures His mercy? Based on whether we’ve EARNED it, or we are WORTH it? BY NO MEANS! God’s Love for you is CONSISTENT-you can TRUST Him! God’s Mercy is ABUNDANT-He stands BY you when you don’t measure up. In fact…Jesus stands in FOR YOU!

The Apostle Paul gives all of us HOPE when he BOLDLY declares to those of us still in messy, construction-zone lives-“God will COMPLETE the work He began in you!” Don’t apologize…just let God work the hammer. He will make you beautiful!
